Poetry to Expand The Family: A Literacy Event to Engage Parents and Increase Parent Student Relationships
One reason for having a poetry slam for parents and students is to promote family engagement and involve parents in their child's education.
A poetry slam/open mic can provide an opportunity for parents and students to come together and share their thoughts and feelings through poetry. This type of event can create a safe and supportive environment for students and parents to express themselves and build relationships with each other and with school staff.
Additionally, a poetry slam/open mic can promote literacy and language skills. It can help students develop their communication skills, creativity, and critical thinking skills. It can also encourage parents to read and write with their children at home, which can improve academic achievement.
Overall, a poetry slam for parents and students can support the goals of the schools program by promoting family engagement, improving literacy skills, and building relationships between parents, students, and school staff.

Our vision is to build The Miss Abbie’s Kids Community Center within the Fordham Road section of The Bronx and other areas to provide families with access to services and facilities that contribute to their community’s long-term growth and sustainability.
We also seek to enlist the help of local officials who have seen the impact of our work.
It will be a safe and accessible environment for children and adult education, mental health/substance use referrals, mentoring, food security, ending mass incarceration, increasing civic participation.
Vocational classes include engineering, barbering, CDL training, carpentry, beautician training and entrepreneurial development.
In addition to these essential services, Miss Abbie’s Kids Community Center will also offer crisis intervention. A community garden will be used to teach about growing and eating nutritious foods.
There will also be a marketplace and juice bar space for meetings for local members to discuss social and community topics, in addition to building a recording studio for our youth to record their music, while learning the engineering that produces the sound.
FOR 8 MONTHS WE MADE HISTORY AS THE ONLY LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTER OPEN AND SERVICING COMMUNITY DURING THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC-here are some memories.

Greetings family, so... here's what is new, in 2019 we launched our first year launching of a new summer program called Miss Abbie's Girls Camp-Style Summer Sleep Away Club. It's the experience of a camp with the lifelong bonding of a club.
10 girls, 1 week on a palatial 287 acre farm, where the emphasis is learning how to farm, swim, learn about money matters, enjoy theater/improv, public speaking, lake boating, camp fires and so much more.
The only campstyle/club program from The Bronx that is focused on teaching Bronx girls the art of farming/agriculture and swimming, we had one of the most impactful experiences of our lives.
WHAT'S GOING DOWN @MAK'S
Miss Abbie's Kids Inc. is a place where youth learn, grow, explore and develop healthy minds and bodies through hands-on real-world teachings thus becoming more sustainable adults.
Seven Starz, Off Da Block and Not At The Side Seat, are all integral programs that accompany MAK's overall mission of a healthier Bronx child. While highlighting a focus on the importance of avoiding preventable chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary illness and reducing likelihood becoming systems impacted adults.
Most recently we have developed two additional programs that we know will increase our young people. MAK's Girls Camp-style Summer Sleep Away Club and Black Home-school Parent Initiative
Our children at MAK's enjoy the benefit of learning from their community adults, professionals in each area and local officials on how to be Positive Powerful People.
Through workshops, community events, legislative and community organizing with varying themes, hands-on work experience, guidance and structure we intend to strengthen The Bronx Child substantially and put a serious dent in levels of mass incarceration through prevention.

Children are naturally free critical thinkers, if we can nourish this from their youngest ages, there is no doubt in my mind that it could be SKIES THE LIMIT for our youth.
